The struggle
for dollars for education continues on an annual basis. In the Spring of
1968, the headline in a district newsletter where I was employed screamed
about a looming “budget crisis.” The article, with a simple change of date,
could easily be reprinted, almost verbatim, today and still accurately reflect
today’s budget dilemmas. If I were a cynic, I might venture to say, that
forty years from now the article could once again accurately describe the
chronic struggle for educational funding. The “Edu-Toons” in this section
historically reflect how America has used educational dollars to address
and pursue a vast array of challenges and needs.
